About Field Notes
A journal about noticing what changes when you stop to look.
Photography often begins before a camera is raised: a shadow crosses a wall, a path disappears into mist, or a passing cloud separates one hillside from the next. Field Notes explores these small decisions in seeing.
The essays focus on light, landscape composition and the habits of travelling with a camera. They offer exercises to try on an ordinary walk, rather than equipment rankings or a list of places to collect.
Looking with care
A photograph is not more important than the place or the people in it. Respect access restrictions, leave natural features undisturbed and ask before making a close portrait. Sometimes the right decision is to put the camera away.
On the page
The landscape drawings are illustrations, not photographs of named destinations. They reduce a scene to light, edges and overlapping shapes, the same elements discussed in the essays.
